Shane Peter McClanahan, an American professional baseball pitcher for the Tampa Bay Rays of Major League Baseball, was born on April 28, 1997. (MLB). In 2020, he made his MLB debut.
McClanahan was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland, until the age of five. In Cape Coral, Florida, he attended Cape Coral High School. In 123 innings thrown during his high school career, he went 29–7 with a 1.02 earned run average (ERA) and 187 strikeouts.
He was selected in the 26th round of the 2015 Major League Baseball draft by the New York Mets. He did not sign with the Mets and instead played collegiate baseball at the University of South Florida (USF).
Following Tommy John surgery, McClanahan did not play his rookie year at USF in 2016. As a redshirt freshman, he returned from injury to start 15 games in 2017, going 4–2 with a 3.20 ERA with 104 strikeouts in 76 innings. In 14 starts as a redshirt sophomore in 2018, he went 5–6 with a 3.42 ERA.
In the 2018 Major League Baseball draft, the Tampa Bay Rays took McClanahan with the 31st overall pick. He got a $2,230,100 signing bonus from the Rays. In mid-August, he was promoted to the Princeton Rays after making his pro debut with the GCL Rays.
