Why do They Call Gary Sanchez Kraken?

As a reference to the sea monster from the 1981 film “Clash of the Titans,” Cashman first began referring to Sanchez as “the Kraken” back in 2015 and 2016. Since then, Sanchez has completely embraced the term, and it has become a part of his identity.

The sound of the bat and the mythical nature of the Kraken made it all the more plausible.”

Gary Sanchez was given the option of deciding which moniker he wanted to use on the back of his uniform during the off-season weekend games. He had little issue settling on Kraken, a moniker bestowed upon him by the Yankees’ general manager, Brian Cashman. Gary Sanchez become popular on the Yankees with the term “Release the Kraken”
