Yandy Dáz Fernández is a Major League Baseball third baseman and outfielder for the Tampa Bay Rays. He was a member of the Cleveland Indians in the previous season.
In the 2012-13 Cuban National Series, Diaz was a member of the Naranjas de Villa Clara.
Diaz decamped from Holguin, Cuba to Monte Cristi, Dominican Republic, with his childhood buddy Leandro Linares and another unidentified people in 2013.
He had attempted to flee Cuba twice before being apprehended and detained by the Cuban government both times. He signed a $300,000 contract with the Cleveland Indians in August.
In 2014, Daz was a member of the Carolina Mudcats of the Class A-Advanced Carolina League. Daz was selected an All-Star in 2015 while playing for the Akron RubberDucks of the Class AA Eastern League.
In September, he was promoted to the Columbus Clippers of the Class AAA International League, and after the 2015 regular season, he was assigned to the Arizona Fall League.
Daz started the 2016 season with Akron before being promoted to Columbus, where he was named the International League Rookie of the Year.
