Zach Britton got selected by the Baltimore Orioles in the third round, with the 85th overall selection, of the 2006 Major League Baseball draft.

He accepted a $200,000 signing bonus to sign a professional contract and not attend college even after being offered an athletic scholarship to attend Texas A&M University.

Britton moved on from Weatherford High School in Texas and was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in the third round of the 2006 MLB draft.

At first a beginning pitcher, Britton changed over to a nearer and drove the American League in saves in 2016 and was named to the AL All-Star group in 2015 and 2016.

From September 20, 2015, to August 23, 2017, Britton changed over 60 straight saves, an American League record. The Orioles exchanged Britton to New York during the 2018 season.

Zack Britton’s injury-plagued 2021 season has come to a frustrating finish, just as the Yankees’ September stretch drive begins.

“It’s disappointing to end this way,” said the lefty reliever, set to undergo a second surgery in six months to remove a bone chip from his pitching elbow.

Britton is also dealing with an ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) sprain, though “the biggest issue is the bone chip.’’
