Don Shula was an American football defensive back and coach who served as a head coach in the National Football League (NFL) from 1963 to 1995. The head coach of the Miami Dolphins for most of his career, Shula is the NFL’s winningest head coach at 347 career victories and 328 regular-season victories.

Shula’s dad Dan worked for $9 per week at a rose nursery and set aside to purchase the little house where Shula spent his youth. The house was nearby to a supermarket in Grand River claimed by Mary’s folks.

Shula played football in his neighborhood as a kid, yet his folks disallowed it after he got a slash all over when he was 11.

As Shula’s family extended he had six kin, including a bunch of trios brought into the world in 1936-his dad found a new line of work in the neighborhood fishing industry for $15 per week and later worked at a rayon plant in adjacent Painesville, Ohio.

Shula went to grade school at St. Mary’s, a private Catholic school in Painesville; his mom was a dedicated Catholic, and his dad changed over to that group when they wedded.
