Medina Spirit was an American pedigree racehorse who finished first in the 2021 Kentucky Derby. He came second in the 2021 Breeders’ Cup Classic and third in the 2021 Preakness Stakes.
Medina Spirit was disqualified after testing positive for the anti-inflammatory steroid betamethasone. Medina Spirit was the first foal produced by Mongolian Changa, a daughter of Brilliant Speed, who won one of six starts.
Medina Spirit was foaled on April 5, 2018, in Ocala, Florida, United States of America. His dam was unable to produce milk for him at first so they made rice and added some colostrum that had been saved from another mare to provide it with crucial nutrients and antibodies.

Medina Spirit collapsed and died following a five-furlong workout session. The horse’s cause of death was said to be a heart attack.
The barn from which the horse was raised stated that they were devastated by the news of Medina Spirit’s death, and described the horse as a member of the family.
