Kyle Whittingham is an American football coach and former player. He is the head football coach for the Utah Utes football team at the University of Utah. The Utah Utes football is a position he has held since 2004 and is the all-time leader in wins at Utah. Before becoming the head coach at Utah, he served as Utah’s defensive coordinator for ten seasons.
As a player, Whittingham played linebacker for the BYU Cougars from 1978 to 1981. In 1981, he was named the defensive Most Valuable Player (MVP) award of the 1981 Holiday Bowl. He played in all of the first four Holiday Bowls. In 2009, he was privileged to be inducted into the Holiday Bowl Hall of Fame.
He graduated from BYU in 1981 and went on to play as a linebacker for the Denver Gold football team and New Orleans Breakers football team under the United States Football League (USFL). Whittingham started his coaching career in 1985 with the BYU Cougars. He’s currently serving as the Head coach for the Utah football team. He’s been with the team for over a decade now.
Born November 21, 1959, in San Luis Obispo, California, United States, Whittingham graduated from BYU with a bachelor’s degree in educational psychology in 1982. He has been married since 1983 to Jamie Whittingham. The couple has four children; Alex Whittingham, Kylie Whittingham, Melissa Whittingham and Tyler Whittingham.
