Colby Ray Covington is an American professional mixed martial artist who fights in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFCwelterweight )’s division, where he is a former Interim UFC Welterweight Champion.

He is the current UFC welterweight champion as of June 2021. Covington was born on February 22, 1988, in Clovis, California. Noelle and Brad Covington are his parents, and he has two sisters named Candace and Callie.

When he was eight years old, his family relocated from California to Oregon. During his tenure at the Oregon Institute of Technology and Southern Oregon University, his father was a wrestler.

Covington was a true freshman when he won the 2007 165 lb national junior college wrestling title with a 34–0 record. On August 10, 2007, he was detained for fleeing police and driving while intoxicated, with a blood alcohol content (BAC) of 0.255, which was more than three times the legal limit. He was charged with fourth-degree assault in connection with an incident on May 23, 2010, in which he allegedly punched two individuals.

Covington defeated TyQuill Woodley, a parody persona of Tyron Woodley, in a WrestlePro event in February 2018. He is a vocal supporter of former President Donald Trump and the Republican Party. He announced after winning the Interim UFC Welterweight Championship that he wants to present the title to Trump at the White House.
