Dontae Johnson plays cornerback in American football for the National Football League’s San Francisco 49ers. He attended NC State before being taken in the fourth round of the 2014 NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers.

Johnson was born and raised in Plainfield, New Jersey. He began his high school career at South Plainfield High School before moving to The Pennington School. He was named to New Jersey’s first-team all-prep team. He finished his senior season with 108 tackles, six interceptions, and three forced fumbles. He also participated in AAU basketball during his high school years.

Johnson was selected by the San Francisco 49ers in the fourth round (129th overall) of the 2014 NFL Draft.  He was taken as the 16th cornerback in the draft.

Johnson signed a four-year, $2.62 million contract with the San Francisco 49ers on May 15, 2014, which includes a $400,544 signing bonus.

(2019-Present)

Johnson was signed by the San Francisco 49ers on October 3, 2019. On November 11, he was released. On December 11, 2019, he re-signed. Johnson and the San Francisco 49ers made it to Super Bowl LIV, but lost to the Kansas City Chiefs, who won by a score of 31-20.

Johnson re-signed with the 49ers on April 13, 2020. He was released on September 5, 2020, and was immediately added to the practice squad. On September 12, he was promoted to the active roster for the team’s Week 1 game against the Arizona Cardinals. On September 14, he was demoted to the practice squad.

Seattle Seahawks

Johnson signed with the Seattle Seahawks on April 11, 2018. He was expected to start as a cornerback, but he suffered a groin injury and was placed on injured reserve. Johnson was activated from injured reserve by the Seahawks on September 27.

Buffalo Bills

Johnson signed with the Buffalo Bills on October 2, 2018. On October 30, 2018, he was released.
