Australian professional boxer George Kambosos Jr. born on June 14, 1993, was a WBA (Super), IBF, WBO and The Ring lightweight champion from November 2021 until June 2022.
He was raised by Greek-Australian parents in Sydney. After moving from Sparta to Australia with his parents and grandparents,
he was inked with the legendary Spartan war cry “Never retreat, never surrender.” He was ridiculed as a youngster for his weight and began playing junior rugby league with the Gymea Gorillas at an early age.
In high school he had to pick between boxing and rugby league, so he decided to go with the latter. Before going professional, he had compiled 85 victories in 100 amateur bouts.
A second-round TKO victory against Jayson MacGurra in May 2013 marked Gianni Kambosos’ professional debut. In December 2016, he defeated world number nine Brandon Ogilvie to win the WBA Oceania championship.
Manny Pacquiao picked him as his main sparring partner for the Jeff Horn fight in May 2017. His promotional deal with DiBella Entertainment was struck in April 2018.
Forero was knocked out after just 1:48 seconds as he made his US debut back in May of 2018. On the undercard of Manny Pacquiao vs Adrien Broner at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas in January 2019, he fought Rey Perez.
