Since 2018, Corey Matthaei has been the assistant offensive line coach for the Kansas City Chiefs in the National Football League (NFL). He held three prior positions with the Chiefs before moving into this one.

For the previous three seasons, he served as the team’s assistant quarterbacks coach. He started with the Chiefs as a quality control coach in 2013.

Matthaei spent three seasons as an assistant to the head coach under Chiefs head coach Andy Reid with the Philadelphia Eagles from 2010 to 2012, following two seasons as a coaching assistant with the Eagles (2008-09). He worked as a training camp assistant with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2006-07.

Matthaei has helped QB Alex Smith to a 65.1 completion percentage, which ranks first among all Chiefs quarterbacks with at least 700 passing attempts since his arrival in Kansas City in 2013.

Since joining the organization in 2013, Smith has had five straight seasons of passing for 3,000 yards under Matthaei’s supervision. After the 2017 season, Smith became the franchise’s all-time highest rusher among quarterbacks (1,672 yards).

Matthaei started his NFL career as an offensive lineman at Willamette University in Salem, Oregon (2003-06). Following graduation, he worked as an offensive assistant at his alma mater for one season.

In 2021 Corey Matthaei will begin his ninth season with the Chiefs, his fourth as an assistant offensive line coach. Matthaei aided in the leadership of an offensive line that had been hampered by injuries.
