James Richard Garoppolo, also known as Jimmy G, is an American football quarterback for the National Football League’s San Francisco 49ers. He was born on November 2, 1991. He attended Eastern Illinois University and set school records for passing yards and touchdowns while earning the Walter Payton Award as a senior.
Garoppolo was drafted by the New England Patriots in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft, where he spent four seasons as Tom Brady’s backup and was a member of two Super Bowl-winning teams.
Garoppolo was traded to the 49ers near the close of the 2017 season and helped revitalize a 1–10 squad by winning the team’s final five games. In 2019, he led the 49ers to their first top-seed finish in the National Football Conference (NFC) since 1997 and a Super Bowl LIV berth. However, his stint in San Francisco has been marred by injuries, which forced him to miss the majority of the 2018 and 2020 seasons.

Jimmy Garoppolo is a recipient of two Super Bowl Championship awards. Jimmy Garoppolo won the Super Bowl champion XLIX 2014 season and Super Bowl champion LI 2016 season
Super Bowl champion XLIX 2014 season
Ji Garoppolo appeared in six games during his rookie season. He completed 19 of 27 passes for 182 yards and a score with a passer rating of 101.2 and added 9 yards on 10 rushing attempts. While Garoppolo did not play in the Patriots’ Super Bowl XLIX victory, he was credited with assisting in the Patriots’ defense’s preparation for Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson.
Super Bowl champion LI 2016 season
Following the league’s four-game suspension of starting quarterback Tom Brady for Deflategate, head coach Bill Belichick appointed Garoppolo the starting quarterback for the 2016 season’s opening game, and he was anticipated to fill in for Brady for the remaining four games. He was the lone Patriot who did not participate in Super Bowl LI, despite being an active participant in the Patriots’ 34–28 overtime triumph over the Atlanta Falcons.
