The World Series, which began in 1903 is a best-of-seven postseason between the winners of baseball’s National League (NL) and American League (AL) .

Through 2021, there have been 117 World Series games, with the AL champion winning 66 and the NL champion winning 51. The American League’s New York Yankees have been in 40 World Series and won 27 of them, the most of any club in the four major North American professional sports leagues.

There have only been four World Series in which a best-of-nine playoff was used, and those were in 1903, 1919, 1920, and 1921.   Only a tiny percentage of the games have taken place outside of the month of October, but the majority of the series have been played in October.

The Commissioner’s Trophy goes to the victorious team in the World Series. Generally, World Series rings are presented to players, coaches, and others involved with the club to remember their triumph; however, they have received other objects including pocket watches and medallions in the past.

It is customary for the victorious team to visit the White House and meet the President of the United States.

The Red Sox have won nine World Series victories and 14 American League (AL) pennants, making them one of the most legendary clubs in American sports.

With triumphs in 2004, 2007, 2013, and 2018, the Boston Red Sox became the first club in the twenty-first century to win four World Series titles.
