Football fanatic for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers? Then take a look at this Tampa Bay Buccaneers running backs list.
Who have been the top running backs for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers throughout their history? My top five are given below.
Mike Alstott
Alstott beat the previous Buccaneer franchise record of 46 touchdowns set by running back James Wilder when he scored his 47th career touchdown on November 26, 2001. Alstott remained the Buccaneers’ all-time leading touchdown scorer until wide receiver Mike Evans scored his 72nd touchdown as a Buccaneer on November 22, 2021.
Leonard Fournette
Leonard Fournette has five seasons of NFL experience with the Jaguars and Buccaneers. He has 3,810 yards on 943 carries, 239 catches for 1,696 yards, and 35 touchdowns. He has one championship to his credit.
Warrick Dunn
Even though Warrick Dunn, one of the Buccaneers’ all-time great running backs, just missed a Super Bowl championship with the team that drafted him, Dunn was a key member of the 1999 Tampa Bay Buccaneers team that came up just short of the Super Bowl in the NFC Championship game.
Michael Pittman
Pittman set career highs for rushing yards in a season (926 in 2004) and receiving yards in a season (597 with 75 catches) in 2003. In 2003, he had the most yards in a single year with a total of 1,348 yards (751 rushings and 597 receiving).
Williams Cadillac
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers selected Williams with the fifth pick of the first round in the 2005 NFL Draft.
Williams’ first half of the season was a roller coaster ride. Williams carried for 434 yards in his first three weeks, becoming the first rookie running back to have three consecutive 100-yard games and rushing for the most yards in the first three weeks of a career, surpassing Alan Ameche of the 1955 Baltimore Colts (now the Indianapolis Colts).
For the first three weeks of the season, Williams was selected rookie of the week, and for September, he was voted rookie of the month. His third-week shoes and gloves were later retired to the Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio.
Williams, on the other hand, suffered injuries to his ankle and arch of his right foot in week four, which forced him to miss two weeks. Williams only carried for 82 yards on limited carries in the following four games he participated, including the game in which he was injured.
However, he averaged over 100 yards each game in his next four contests (408). Williams had six 100-yard games in 14 starts as a rookie, leading all rookies in overall running yards (1,178), rookie of the week accolades (3), and finishing second in rushing touchdowns (behind Brandon Jacobs) (6).
