Melvin lettered in football and soccer while attending Ellwood P. Cubberley High School in Palo Alto, California[1]. Cubberley High School, where he graduated in 1979, was his alma mater.
Melvin’s first coaching position was at San Francisco State University as a graduate assistant. After that, he went on to Northern Arizona University to coach tight end Shawn Collins.
Following that, he went on to coach at the University of California, Santa Barbara. During Melvin’s time at UCSB, the offense was ranked sixth in the country, and he coached five All-America.
Melvin joined the Philadelphia Eagles coaching staff in 1999 and worked as an offensive assistant/quality control coach for three seasons before taking over as tight ends coach. Melvin won his first Super Bowl with the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIV, where they defeated the San Francisco 49ers 31-20.
