Cory Undlin Career History As A Coach

California Lutheran and Fresno State

Undlin’s coaching career began in 1998 and 1999 as a linebackers coach at his alma mater, California Lutheran. In 2000, he was elevated to defensive coordinator, a job he held until 2001 when he transferred to Fresno State University.

Graduate assistant at Fresno State under Pat Hill, a former assistant coach of the Cleveland Browns under Bill Belichick, in 2002 and 2003.

New England Patriots 

Undlin became a defensive coaching assistant under Belichick in 2004 for the New England Patriots. When the Patriots won Super Bowl XXXIX, he was a member of their coaching staff.

Cleveland Browns

Undlin was appointed as a defensive assistant by Romeo Crennel in 2005 in Cleveland. Undlin was promoted to assistant special teams coach and secondary coach in 2007. Offensive backs coach Undlin was elevated to that position in 2008.

Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jaguars hired Undlin in 2009 as a defensive coach after firing Crennel in Cleveland. In 2010, he was elevated to the position of defensive backs coach, but he and the rest of the staff were sacked following the 2011 season.

Denver Broncos

His first job was as a defensive quality control coach for the Denver Broncos in 2012. In 2013, he became the Broncos’ defensive coordinator.

Philadelphia Eagles

Undlin was signed by the Philadelphia Eagles as their defensive backs coach in January 2015. On January 20, 2016, the Eagles announced that he has been retained as the team’s defensive backs coach.

Undlin was part of the Philadelphia Eagles coaching staff that defeated the New England Patriots, 41-33, in Super Bowl LII on February 4, 2018.

Detroit Lions

Undlin was hired by the Detroit Lions on January 13, 2020, as Matt Patricia’s defensive coordinator. Due to COVID-19 rules, he was unable to play against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 16. After the season, he was sacked.

San Francisco 49ers
