Which College And High School Did Dave Merritt Attend?
Dave Merritt attended Millbrook High School in Raleigh, North Carolina, and went on to North Carolina State University to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science.
Merritt was inducted into the Millbrook High School Hall of Fame in 2012 as a member of the school’s inaugural class.
Merritt played linebacker for the North Carolina State Wolfpack from 1989 to 1992, where he was selected first team All-ACC in 1992 after leading the conference in tackles.
He earned his Political Science degree while playing linebacker for the Wolfpack. He was later picked by the Miami Dolphins in the seventh round of the 1993 NFL Draft, and he also spent three seasons with the Arizona Cardinals before being released.
In his final season as a player before turning to coach, he was a member of the Dusseldorf Rheinfire of the NFL Europe, which competed in the World Bowl Championship that year (1997).
With the New York Jets (2001-2003), where he served as a defensive assistant and linebacker coach, he began his NFL coaching career under Herm Edwards and Ted Cottrell.
Prior to joining the New York Jets, he served as an outside linebacker coach at Tennessee-Chattanooga (1997) and at Virginia Military Institute (1998). (1998-2000).
