The San Francisco 49ers are an American football professional team situated in the San Francisco Bay Area.
The franchise began as a charter member of the All-America Football Conference (AAFC) in 1946, and when the leagues merged in 1949, they became part of the NFL. The San Francisco 49ers are the NFL’s 10th oldest franchise and the city’s first major league professional sports franchise.
The team began to play in San Francisco at Kezar Stadium before moving to Candlestick Park in 1971 and then to Levi’s Stadium in 2014. The 49ers have been based in Santa Clara since 1988.
Meet Tony Morabito – Founder of San Francisco 49ers
The San Francisco 49ers were founded by Anthony James “Tony” Morabito. During the late 1930s and early 1940s, he maintained a somewhat successful lumber-carrying business in San Francisco, California, after graduating from the University of Santa Clara.
Born January 12, 1910, in San Francisco, California, United States.
Following that discussion, Morabito and his associates walked down to see Arch Ward, the Chicago Tribune’s sports editor, who was attempting to form a rival league, the All-America Football Conference (AAFC).
The first meeting of the AAFC was place in St. Louis on June 6, 1944. [1] Morabito agreed to organize a franchise in San Francisco, with the American Association of Football League (AAFC) planning to begin play after the war.
