He spent most of his NFL career with the San Diego Chargers, who took him fifth overall in the 2001 Draft Pick.

Tomlinson was selected to five Pro Bowls, was named to six All-Pro teams, and won back-to-back rushing titles in 2006 and 2007, earning him the 2006 NFL MVP award. At the time of his pension, he ranked 5th in career rushing yards (13,684), he was seventh in all-purpose yards (18,456), also second in career rushing touchdowns (145), and finally third in total touchdowns (145).
