He attended Mississippi Valley State University and was drafted 16th overall in the first round of the 1985 NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers, where he served 16 seasons. Rice played for both the Oakland Raiders and the Seattle Seahawks.
Rice is the career leader in most key wide receiver statistics areas, including catches, touchdown receptions, and receiving yards, and was once the season leader in total yards and touchdowns. With 1,256 points, he holds the record for most points scored by a non-kickoff player in NFL history.
