Dallas Cowboys All-Time Leading Rusher
With 17,162 yards on the ground, Emmitt Smith is the Dallas Cowboys’ all-time leading rusher.
Emmitt James Smith III is a retired American football running back who spent 15 seasons with the Dallas Cowboys in the National Football League. He is the all-time top rusher in the NFL, among other honors.
Smith did grow up in Pensacola, Florida, and while playing for Escambia High School, he became the second-leading rusher in American high school football history. Smith was a three-year member of the Florida Gators’ football team, where he set multiple school rushing marks. Smith elected to forego his senior year of eligibility and play professionally after being voted a unanimous All-American in 1989.
Smith was the only one of two non-kickers in NFL history with a 1,000-point career (the other being Jerry Rice). In 2010, Smith was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, and in 2006, he was incorporated into the College Football Hall of Fame. Smith spent thirteen years with the Cowboys and two years with the Cardinals.
