All Time Leading Rusher

With 15,269 yards on the ground, Barry Sanders leads the Detroit Lions in rushing. It is therefore accurate to say that Barry Sanders is the Detroit Lions All-Time Leading Rusher.

Barry Sanders was born on July 16, 1968. He is a retired American football running back who spent ten seasons with the Detroit Lions in the National Football League (NFL).

Sanders, a two-time NFL Offensive Player of the Year and a Pro Bowl invitee in each of his ten NFL seasons, led the league in running yards four times and established himself as one of the most elusive runners in the game with his quickness and agility.

Sanders attended Wichita North High School in Wichita, Kansas, where he was born. Sanders began his sophomore season as a tailback, but his brother Byron took up the role the next year. Sanders did not make the starting lineup until the fourth game of his senior season.

In the remaining seven games of the season, he carried for 1,417 yards, earning him all-state accolades. Sanders averaged 10.2 yards per carry during that seven-game stretch, yet he was missed by most college recruiters.
