Meet Ross Atkins – General Manager of Toronto Blue Jays

Ross Atkins was hired as the general manager of the Toronto Blue Jays on December 3, 2015, following 15 years with the Cleveland Indians.

Ross Dannon Atkins was born on August 7, 1973, in Greensboro, North Carolina, and is currently an American baseball executive. On December 3, Mark Shapiro, the Blue Jays’ team president, and CEO since October 31, 2015, recruited Atkins as general manager. Tony LaCava, who had served as temporary GM since November, was succeeded by him.

On April 7, 2021, the Blue Jays announced that Atkins had signed a five-year long-term deal that will last until the end of the 2026 season.

Prior to the trade deadline, Atkins made multiple additions to the Blue Jays roster, including Melvin Upton Jr., Joaqun Benoit, Scott Feldman, Francisco Liriano, and others, all of whom helped the Blue Jays reach the playoffs for the second straight season with an 89-73 record.

The 2018 season was much of the same, with the Jays finishing with a 73-89 record and missing the playoffs for the second straight season, prompting Atkins to initiate a roster makeover.
