This year’s Academy Awards event, which will be held on Sunday, was planned in part to include a few surprises for moviegoers. The odds of a brawl between two world-class athletes were probably not in their favor, however.

If moviegoers could unite, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences was expecting an increase in ratings for the 94th Academy Awards.

Jada Pinkett-hair Smith was the subject of a Chris Rock joke, which inspired her husband Will to walk up and hit Rock with the best documentary trophy before the event had even begun.

However, unedited international feeds picked up the two stars hurling profanities and cursing at each other as ABC cut the mics.

The Academy observed a moment of silence in honor of the Ukrainian people, who are being attacked by Russian forces.

An onscreen announcement added, “We’d like to hold a moment of silence to show our solidarity for the people of Ukraine who are currently confronting invasion, conflict, and intolerance within their own borders.”
