Why was Brittney Griner Detained in Russia?
Brittney Griner was detained because he smuggled vape cartridges containing hashish oil into Russia.
WNBA star Brittney Griner has finally been allowed consular access after more than three weeks of incarceration in Russia, according to State Department spokesperson Ned Price.
Since being brought into the prison from Sheremetyevo International Airport, she has only had access to a Russian legal team, according to US officials.
Price said, “We were able to check on her condition,” adding that Griner is well.
“To ensure that she is treated fairly, we will continue to work closely with her legal team and her wider network.
That is a message we will keep sending to the Russian Federation in no uncertain terms “According to Price.
Ekaterina Kalugina, a member of the Public Monitoring Commission, a semi-official group with access to Russian jails, who spent time with Griner earlier this month, told NPR that her mental health is “calm” and her detention conditions are “normal.”
According to Kalugina, the basketball player is permitted to visit a Russian sauna twice a week and take an hourly walk once a day. She has access to books, Russian television, and homemade board games as well.
