Why Was Joe Cullen Arrested In 2006?

In 2006, Cullen was arrested for DUI while employed as Detroit Lions defensive line coach.

Also during the 2006 pre-season, he was arrested after driving naked through a Wendy’s drive-thru, which resulted in his being detained again. Because of his “behavior detrimental to the league,” he was fined $20,000 and suspended for one game by the NFL.

He was also ordered by a judge to perform 10 days of community service and attend Alcoholics Anonymous meetings as punishment.

Rearview mirror lights of blue and red were bouncing off Joe Cullen’s windshield when the SUV’s driver awoke in the morning. He didn’t know how he got there. The last thing he remembered was drinking whiskey with a group of coworkers at a bar earlier in the day.

When I got up this morning, it was Friday. They had been given early release from their duties ahead of the NFL season in 2006, just two weeks before it began.

He realized he was completely naked as he stood in the street waiting for the police to arrive. Grabbed his workout clothes from his backpack in the backseat, and hurriedly put them on.

He started at the incorrect end, putting on his shirt first, as he was still fuzzy from alcohol and sleep. “I couldn’t find the shorts in time,” he explains now.

He was covered with a blanket when officers pulled him out of the car while he was still half-naked. They allowed him to go through his suitcase, where he eventually discovered his shorts. He was handcuffed as soon as those were placed on him.

The picture became more and more apparent over time. In the parking lot of the Wendy’s near his new condo, Cullen realized he was. Because he hadn’t paired the whiskey with the dinner he’d been served, he had a bad experience.

After returning to his apartment and undressing, he realized he was starving. He got in his car and drove to the all-night drive-thru, forgetting to put his clothes back on.

Cullen had no recollection of what he ordered at Wendy’s that night, despite the fact that the employees who phoned the police did.
