The Indianapolis Colts may only have Carson Wentz for a short period of time. Indianapolis made headlines last year when they traded for the former second-overall pick from the Philadelphia Eagles in return for a 2021 third-round pick and a conditional 2022 second-round pick, which has since become a 2022 first-round pick owing to Wentz’s success in Indianapolis.

However, the Colts appear to be considering a quick split after trading away two first-round picks to get him.

According to Chris Mortensen of ESPN, through Pro Football Talk, Wentz is reportedly in peril of being traded or fired outright by Indianapolis before March 18 when his total $22 million basic contract for 2022 becomes completely guaranteed.

For the Colts, this is a monumental choice since Wentz will receive an additional $6.29 million in signing bonus money on that date.

It’s evident that Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay isn’t happy with Wentz’s performance in a win-and-get-in scenario against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 18.

When it comes to the Indianapolis Colts, a franchise run by Frank Reich, the man who made Wentz a household name in Philadelphia, this would be a significant about-face.

The issue arises if Reich and Co. are waving the white flag on Wentz, and only one year after the Eagles did the same, who would be ready to give up assets in order to be the third team in as many seasons to try and heal him.
