Astros Field, often known as Minute Maid Park, is a retractable-roof ballpark in downtown Houston, Texas, that was built in 2000 to serve as the home stadium for the Houston Astros of the Major League Baseball (MLB).
The stadium has a natural grass playing surface and is Houston’s first retractable-roofed stadium. The Astrodome, the world’s first domed sports stadium, debuted in 1965, and the new ballpark was planned to replace it. A subsidiary of the Coca-Cola Company, Minute Maid, purchased the naming rights in 2002 for $100 million over the course of 30 years. A total capacity of 41,168, including 5,197 club seats and 63 premium suites, is available at Minute Maid Park as of 2016.
Houston Astros Owner
James Robert Crane hails from Houston, Texas. Crane is the chairman and CEO of Crane Capital Group, Crane Worldwide Logistics, and Crane Freight & Shipping. The Houston Astros of Major League Baseball are also owned and run by him. Crane attended Lutheran High School North in Dellwood, Missouri, a north St. Louis suburb, and graduated in 1972. His donation of $1 million helped the school expand its sporting facilities and increase the campus area from 40 to 67 acres in 2004 when he made his gift. The James R. Crane Athletic Complex was renamed in honor of his generosity.
