The A’s had to give up their “KC” emblemed cap when they moved from Kansas City to Oakland and instead adopted the script ‘A,’ as they had done in Philadelphia, but with a Kelly green cap, which was now the team’s primary color. The script ‘A,’ however, was changed to “A’s,” to reflect Finley’s intention to officially rename the team the “A’s” from the “Athletics.”

Gold was added to the Oakland Athletics’ hats. A “serif” was added to the ‘A’ on the left side of the hat and uniform in 1973. The “A’s” logo on the cap hasn’t altered since then.

The color of the A’s hat changed from a Kelly green to a hunter green, which is now more easily recognized. However, this baseball cap has been a staple of the Athletics’ uniform for 35 seasons, making it one of the most tenured in MLB.

At FanFest in 2014, the A’s green alternative jersey and new road hat were unveiled. Unlike the previous road hat used for 20 seasons, the new solid hunter green cap includes “A’s” inscribed in white with gold embellishments. There have also been MLB holiday caps, including those worn on July 4th, Memorial Day, and other batting practice days over the years.
