National League pennant winners of a particular season in Major League Baseball are the team that wins the championship (the pennant) of the league’s National League (NL). After winning the Warren C. Giles Trophy, this team goes on to play in the World Series against the American League champions (AL). The Atlanta Braves are the current National League pennant winners, having defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers in October 2021 to claim the NL title.

Since 1876, the pennant has been given every year except 1994, when a players’ strike forced the postseason to be canceled. In the years preceding 1969, the pennant was awarded annually at the season’s conclusion to the team with the best win-loss record.

It was decided which club would win the pennant in 1969 via a series of games called the National League Championship Series (NLCS), which pitted the top teams from each division against one another.

For the 1985 postseason, the NLCS format was modified from a best-of-five to a best-of-seven series.  As a result of MLB’s restructuring of the two divisions in each league in 1995, one additional postseason series was added.

The  NL Division Series pits the winners of the Eastern (East), Central (Central), and Western divisions against one wild card club to determine which teams would play for the championship.

The Atlanta Braves have won the NL Pennants 18 times in their Franchise with the most recent one in 2021
