The Miami Marlins are a Major League Baseball team based in the city of Miami. They compete in the American League. The Miami Marlins were established in 1991 as the Florida Marlins and began play in 1993 in the Miami Gardens suburb. In 2012, the Marlins relocated to the city and changed their name to the Miami Marlins.
The Marlins have won the world series championship 2 times in their history. They won it in the 1997 and 2003 season
1997 World Series
The 1997 World Series was the championship series of Major League Baseball’s (MLB). The American League (AL) champion Cleveland Indians faced up against the National League (NL) champion Florida Marlins in the 93rd World Series, which was a best-of-seven playoff.
Despite being considered underdogs, the Marlins prevailed against the Indians in the World Series, winning four games to three to claim their first championship. Game 7 was settled in extra innings on a walk-off single hit by Édgar Rentera that ended the game in extra innings. Liván Hernández of the Miami Marlins was awarded the World Series Most Valuable Player.
2003 World Series
It was the 99th World Series, and it was a best-of-seven playoff between the National League (NL) champion Florida Marlins and the American League (AL) champion New York Yankees; the Marlins defeated the heavily-favored Yankees, four games to two, in the series’ final matchup.
The series took place between October 18 and October 25, 2003. This is the most recent World Series in which the losing team outscored the winning team; the Yankees were defeated despite outscoring the Marlins 21–17 throughout the series’ last three games
