The Las Vegas Raiders are a professional American football team headquartered in the Las Vegas metropolitan region. The Raiders compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a registered member of the league’s American Football Conference (AFC) West division. The team plays its home games at Allegiant Stadium in Paradise, Nevada, and is located in Henderson, Nevada.
The Raiders were founded on January 30, 1960, and were initially based in Oakland, California. They played their first regular-season game as a charter member of the American Football League on September 11, 1960. With the merger of the AFL and the NFL in 1970, they went to the NFL.
From the 1982 season to the 1994 season, the club relocated to Los Angeles before returning to Oakland for the start of the 1995 season. The Raiders’ application to relocate to Las Vegas was virtually unanimously approved by NFL team owners on March 27, 2017. The Raiders relocated to Las Vegas on January 22, 2020, over three years later.
