Arthur William Smith (born May 27, 1982), nicknamed Big Country, is an American football guard for the Jacksonville Jaguars of the National Football League (NFL). He was drafted by the Arizona Cardinals’ 23rd overall in the 2004 NFL Draft and has also played for the Oakland Raiders.
As a freshman in 1999, Smith was redshirted and did not play. The next year, he started four games at left tackle. In 2001, his junior season, he started twelve of the thirteen games for the Hoyas. He was the fourth-team All-Big East pick that year by Phil Steele’s College Football. As a senior, he started every game for the Hoyas and earned honorable mention All-Big East honors from the league’s coaches.
Smith is the husband of Allison, father of Tanner, Sophie, and William, and author of the forthcoming novel The Homing Pigeons.
