Bruno Fernandes Current Team
Manchester United announced on January 29, 2020, that they had reached an agreement with Sporting for Fernandes’ move for a sum of up to €80 million (£67.6 million), subject to the player passing a medical and agreeing to personal terms.
The transfer was finalized the next day for an initial sum of about €55 million (£47 million), plus up to €25 million (£21 million) in add-ons and a 10% profit share if United ever sold Fernandes.
Fernandes agreed to a five-and-a-half-year deal with the team.
On February 1, he made his debut, playing the entire 90 minutes of a goalless draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers at home.
On February 17, he assisted on Manchester United’s second goal, a header from Harry Maguire, in their 2–0 away win over Chelsea.
On his European debut for Manchester United, Fernandes came on as a late substitute in a 1–1 tie against Club Brugge.
On February 23, he scored his first goal for Manchester United against Watford, converting from the penalty spot in a 3–0 victory at Old Trafford, in which he also supplied an assist for Mason Greenwood’s third goal.
Fernandes scored a hat-trick in a 5–1 win over Leeds United in the Premier League season opener on August 14, 2021.
He subsequently scored with a powerful strike from 25 yards in the team’s next home game against Newcastle United, before missing a last-minute penalty against Aston Villa two weeks later that would have salvaged a 1–1 draw.
He then apologized on Instagram for missing the penalty.
On November 23, Fernandes assisted Jadon Sancho in United’s 2–0 Champions League victory over Villarreal, ensuring his team’s qualification to the round of 16, becoming the first player for an English club to provide an assist in five consecutive Champions League matches.
Fernandes made his 100th appearance for United on December 2nd, netting the first goal in a 3–2 home win over rivals Arsenal at Old Trafford.
On April 1, 2022, Fernandes signed a new deal with Manchester United that will keep him at the club until June 2026, with an option for another year.
