Tight ends for the Buffalo Bills have a long and distinguished history. One can only imagine what this list will look like in the future as the tight end position grows in importance in today’s offensive tactics.

Many great tight ends in Buffalo Bills history include Pete Metzelaars, Charles Clay, and Scott Chandler, to name just a few.

1. Pete Metzelaars
Seattle selected Metzelaars with the 75th overall choice in the 1982 NFL Draft, making him a third-round pick. In 1985, he was dealt with the Buffalo Bills after three seasons in Seattle. The Bills’ offense benefited greatly when Metzelaars signed with coach Jim Kelly in 1986.
The Bills lost four Super Bowls from 1990 to 1993, but he scored a touchdown in Super Bowl XXVI, which he also played in. In 1993, when he caught 68 passes for 609 yards and four touchdowns, Metzelaars had his best season.
2. Scott Chandler
Against the Kansas City Chiefs, Chandler got his first start of the season and caught five passes for 63 yards and two scores. A tight end, he had 38 receptions for 389 yards and tied a franchise record with six touchdown grabs in a season in 14 appearances (9 starts) (Pete Metzelaars – 1992 and Jay Riemersma – 1998).
During his sophomore season, he appeared in 15 games, starting three of them, catching 43 passes for 571 yards and six touchdowns. In 2013, he appeared in all 16 games for the club, starting seven of them, and led the team in receiving yards and receptions with 53.
3. Charles Clay
He recorded a career-best nine receptions in game four against the Giants and equaled it two weeks later against the Bengals, both losses. He had 51 receptions for 528 yards and three touchdowns (10.4 average.)
Only five of the 16 games he appeared in last year saw him score at least 50 receiving yards. Games 13-15 saw him score all four of his touchdowns.
4. Dawson Knox
It was Josh Allen’s two-yard touchdown pass that Knox caught in Buffalo’s Wild Card Round win over the Indianapolis Colts, which ultimately led to the Bills’ 27–24 triumph. Knox hauled in six passes for 42 yards and a touchdown in the 38–24 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship game.
5. Jay Riemersma
The Buffalo Bills selected Riemersma with the 244th overall choice in the 1996 NFL Draft. The Buffalo Bills signed him to a seven-year contract in 1996 and he appeared in 90 games during that time, 65 of which were starts. He had 221 catches for 2,304 yards and 20 touchdowns as a Bills tight end.
