Chris Shula’s Father: Meet David Donald Shula
The American football coach and former player David Donald Shula is a well-known figure in the football community. Currently, he serves as Dartmouth College’s wide receivers head coach. The Cincinnati Bengals of the National Football League were led by Shula from 1992 through 1996, amassing a 19–52 record as the team’s head coach.
David Donald Shula Biography
David Donald Shula was born on May 28, 1959, in Lexington, Kentucky. Following Don Shula’s NFL career, the Shula family relocated to Detroit in 1960 and then to Baltimore in 1963. In 1970, the family relocated to Miami Lakes, Florida, where Dave Shula was a standout football and baseball player at Hollywood Chaminade High School.
A one-season stint as a wide receiver and punt returner with the Baltimore Colts in 1981 marked Shula’s only participation in the National Football League (NFL). When he joined the Miami Dolphins in 1982, he was working under his father, who was the team’s head coach.
For the Dallas Cowboys, Shula was recruited as offensive coordinator in 1989 by Jimmy Johnson. He served in that position for two seasons. Following trust issues , Shula was dismissed from his job as offensive coordinator after the 1990 season.
He left Dallas shortly after to become an assistant coach with the Cincinnati Bengals, which he held until his retirement in 2002.
