Who is John P. Picollo?
John P. Picollo who was born on born December 10, 1970, is a baseball executive in the United States. He is the general manager of the Major League Baseball’s Kansas City Royals.
Picollo was born and raised in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. In 1989, he graduated from Cherry Hill High School West. He enrolled at North Carolina State University, where he was a member of the Wolfpack baseball team. He transferred to George Mason University to continue his baseball career as a member of the Patriots. Picollo was taken by the Cincinnati Reds in two MLB drafts, but he did not sign with the team.
Picollo was undrafted after his senior year at George Mason due to elbow problems, although he did play in five games with the Oneonta Yankees, the New York Yankees’ Class A Short Season club, in 1994.
Picollo joined the Atlanta Braves as a scout in 1999.
When the Royals hired Dayton Moore as their general manager in 2006, Picollo was his first hire, and he was named director of player development. In September 2021, the Royals promoted Moore to team president and Picollo to general manager.
