The Kansas City Royals are a major league baseball club in the United States headquartered in Kansas City.
After the Kansas City Athletics moved to Oakland, California in 1968, the Kansas City Royals began play in 1969. The American Royal Livestock Show in Kansas City, Missouri, serves as the inspiration for the new expansion team’s name.
So, instead of going with a cow-themed design, the Royals have chosen to go with a crown-topped royal banner in the style of home plate for their new blue and gold emblem. There is a gold “KC” over a white “R” on this banner, which is followed by the gold “ROYALS” lettering.
It’s still worn today, with small tweaks to the hue of blue, but the team hats are still a royal blue with a white monogrammed “KC” on the front.
The “KC” in white with a black drop shadow replaces the “R” that was formerly on the home plate of the original logo; this is the primary mark that the team still uses today. There is also a slightly darker shade of blue on everything from logos to their caps.
