The Los Angeles Angels have won just one AL Pennants Title. It was won in 2002.
The 2002 season was the 42nd for the Anaheim Angels, and it resulted in the team’s first American League pennant and World Series triumph.
The Angels concluded the regular season with a 99-63 record, four games behind the Oakland Athletics in the American League West, but they qualified for the franchise’s first-ever wild card playoff slot, allowing them to return to the postseason for the first time since 1986.
Garret Anderson, the club’s leading hitter with 123 RBIs and a.539 slugging percentage, was named to the AL All-Star squad and won the Silver Slugger Award. Jarrod Washburn led a pitching staff that allowed the fewest runs in the league, going 18-6 with a 3.15 ERA.
The Angels won the American League pennant by defeating the New York Yankees 3-1 in the American League Division Series and then defeating the Minnesota Twins 4-1 in the American League Championship Series. The Angels then won the World Series in a spectacular manner, rallying from a 3-2 series deficit to force a winner-take-all Game 7 against the San Francisco Giants, which they won 4-3.
The Orange County Register hailed the Angels’ victory with the title “7th Heaven,” a reference to the famous television show and the fact that it took seven games for the Angels to win the World Series, putting them in seventh heaven.
