There are three divisions in the American League, and one of them is the West. There were four clubs from 1994 to 2012 and as many as seven teams in the division before the 1994 restructuring. The division now features five teams for the 2013 season. There were clubs from Chicago to Los Angeles in this division before its present location on the West Coast and Texas.
AL West was the only division with four clubs from 1998 to 2012 (NL West expanded from three to five teams in 1998). The Houston Astros moved from the NL Central to the AL West in 2013. All six MLB divisions now have five clubs apiece, and both leagues now have 15 teams total, as a result of the new rule change.
The Houston Astros are the reigning Champions of the AL West Division title having won 4 titles since 2017.
