The Detroit Tigers are an American professional baseball team based in Detroit. The Tigers compete in Major League Baseball as a member of the American League Central division.

The team is said to play all their home games at the Comerica park with their mascot being Paws. The team is currently headed by A. J. Hinch.

According to reports the first black player in the team was Ozzie Virgil who was integrated into the Detroit Tigers, baseball team. Virgil, acquired from the San Francisco Giants in January of that year, became the first Black player to appear in a Detroit Tiger game.

Since their establishment as a major league franchise in 1901, the Tigers have won four World Series championships (1935, 1945, 1968, and 1984), 11 AL pennants (1907, 1908, 1909, 1934, 1935, 1940, 1945, 1968, 1984, 2006, 2012), and four AL Central division championships (2011, 2012, 2013, and 2014).
