The Houston Astros is a major league baseball club headquartered in Houston, Texas, United States. As of 2013, the Houston Astros are a part of the American League West division, having previously played in the National League for their first 51 seasons.

A new team was formed in 1962, and the Houston Colt.45’s became the Houston Astros in 1965 when they relocated to Astrodome Stadium. After the 2012 season, they were the lone team to make the switch from the National League to the American League.

Major League Baseball was reorganized into six divisions in 1994, and the National League Central Division, or NL Central, was established. As a result, both the American League and the National League have Central Divisions. To ensure that both leagues had an equal number of clubs, a realignment was implemented following the 1998 expansion.

The Houston Astros won the Central Division titles 4 times in 1997,1998,1999 and 2001 before joining the American League West division in 2013. They were the first team in the Franchise to win the Central Division three consecutive times.
