The Kansas City Royals are a professional baseball club headquartered in Kansas City, Missouri, that plays in the National League. Royals are a Major League Baseball (MLB) team that represents the American League (AL) Central division. They participate in the American League (MLB). As an expansion club, the team was established in 1969, and it has participated in four World Series, winning two in 1985 and one in 2015, while losing the other two in 1980 and 2014.
When the Oakland Athletics relocated to Oakland, pharmaceutical executive Ewing Kauffman founded the franchise, which began play the following year. They immediately established themselves as a competitive team, with an 85–76 win–loss record in their third season to earn a winning record.
Through the 1975 to 1978 seasons, the club had established itself as a dominant force in the American League West, winning at least 90 games in four consecutive seasons from 1975 to 1978.
Since the franchise history, the Kansas City Royals have only won the Wild Card Berth Title once (1) in 2014.

American League wild-card teams Oakland Athletics and Kansas City Royals faced off in the 2014 MLB playoffs play-in game, which was played on October 5, 2014. On September 30, 2014, Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri, hosted the event. A 9–8 victory in 12 innings saw the Kansas City Royals advance to the 2014 American League Division Series, where they faced the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. TBS aired the game on television, and ESPN Radio carried the radio feed.
