The Chargers were founded in Los Angeles in 1959 and began to play in 1960 as a charter member of the American Football League. Before relocation to San Diego Chargers in 1961, they worked their first season in Los Angeles.
Through AFL–NFL merger in 1970, the Chargers joined the leading league (NFL).
