Ronald Eugene Rivera was born on January 7, 1962, also known as Riverboat Ron, is the head coach of the National Football League’s Washington Redskins (NFL). Rivera played college football for the Golden Bears and was named an All-American linebacker during his time there.

Before becoming a coach, he attended the University of California, Berkeley in the early 1980s. Following graduation, he was picked in the second round of the 1984 NFL Draft by the Chicago Bears, where he spent his entire nine-year professional career, notably as a member of the 1985 Super Bowl XX winning team.

Rivera started his coaching career with the Bears in 1997 as a quality control coach. After two years as a linebackers coach with the Philadelphia Eagles, he returned to the Bears as defensive coordinator in 2004.

The Bears made it to Super Bowl XLI during his time as head coach. He worked as a linebackers coach for the San Diego Chargers for a year before becoming the team’s defensive coordinator for three years.
