The Red Sox were a dominating force in the new league, capturing four more championships by 1918 after defeating the Pittsburgh Pirates in the first World Series in 1903.

Nevertheless, they went on to have one of baseball’s longest championship droughts, dubbed the “Curse of the Bambino” after the Red Sox allegedly sold Babe Ruth to the rival New York Yankees two years after winning the World Series in 1918, an 86-year wait before winning their sixth World Championship in 2004.

Boston Red Sox Best Season

For some six months ago, the Red Sox’s leadoff man set the tone, as the team set a franchise record with 108 wins. Betts’ 10.6 WAR that season is second only to Yaz’s 10.6 WAR in team history.

Meet Carl Yastrzemski the 1967 Impossible Dream season is remembered by generations of Red Sox fans. Yaz, who was a one-man machine at the plate and in the field, was the driving force behind it.

By hitting, the Hall of Fame left fielder captured the Triple Crown. 326 hits, 44 home runs, and 121 runs batted in. Since then, only Miguel Cabrera (2012) has won the Triple Crown.

It was a masterclass in excellence, with Yaz consistently coming through in the clutch. Yaz went 7-for-8 with the Red Sox vying for the AL pennant and having to win their final two regular-season games to do so.
