The Astros‘ run of success from the middle to the end of the 2010s completely rewrote the club’s record book. In back-to-back seasons (2018-19), the Astros produced their two biggest single-season victory totals, including a club-record 107 victories in ’19, when they came within a game of winning their second World Series in three seasons.
Ahead of that time period was a fantastic group of Astros that won 102 games during the regular season before falling short in the postseason against the Padres.
That group included Randy Johnson, who was acquired at the Trade Deadline and helped the Astros to a World Series victory in 1998. That was the only Astros club to win at least 100 games while playing in the National League during their tenure in the National League.
The 2019 Astros Season (107-55)
Even after back-to-back appearances in the American League Championship Series, which included a World Series championship in 2017, the summer of ’19 may have been the most memorable for baseball in the city of Houston. All summer, Justin Verlander and Gerrit Cole were neck-and-neck in the battle for the American League Cy Young Award, Alex Bregman made a late push for the AL MVP Award, and Yordan Alvarez was the best rookie in the league.
Game 7 in Houston came down to the Astros needing eight outs to win their second World Series victory in three years before the Nationals rallied to win the game.
