Minnesota Twins Best Season So Far?
1) Record: 102-60 | Year: 1965 (.630 win percentage). It should come as no surprise that this team produced the most productive regular season in Twins history based on a simple scan around this squad.
The lineup featured future Hall of Famer Harmon Killebrew, AL hitting champion Tony Oliva, Bob Allison, and AL Most Outstanding Player Award winner Zoilo Versalles, while the starting rotation had Mudcat Grant, Jim Kaat, Camilo Pascual, and Jim Perry, all of whom had ERAs of 3.35 or below.
The Twins built a significant lead over the rest of the league in July with a 22-9 record, and they held on to win their first American League pennant in only their fifth season since relocating to Minnesota.
They were one win away from winning their first World Series, but Sandy Koufax’s three-hit complete-game shutout in Game 7 gave the Dodgers the victory. Indeed, after famously refusing to start Game 1 on Yom Kippur, Koufax pitched shutouts in Games 5 and 7.
