Rangers Captain
The Texas Rangers’ mascot is Rangers Captain. A palomino-style horse decked up in the team’s colors, he made his debut in 2002 and has been around ever since. The number “72” on his suit is a nod to the year the Rangers came to the Dallas/Fort Worth area, which was in 1972.
There are a number of different uniforms available for the mascot. The outfit chosen by the Rangers Captain for the game reflects the uniform decision made by the squad. As part of an Elvis Presley-themed event on April 24, 2010, the Captain donned an Elvis Presley-inspired suit.
It was a sight to behold, the inauguration celebration. The mascot was unveiled at Arlington’s Ballpark, where then-major Elzie Odom formally swore him in.
The ballpark’s tunnel, located behind home plate, is where he spends most of his time during the games. Game days can be chaotic affairs. In addition to signing and autographs in the Kids Zone during the 5th inning, he sprints with a flag after every win! Cotton Eyed Joe is his go-to song because he’s a cowboy purveyor. In spite of his jovial demeanor, many people find him scary. It is, after all, a human being with a horse’s head on its head.
