John J Fisher Career
After graduation, he went to work for a real estate firm that conducted business with the Gap, the family business. He was promoted to president of Pisces Inc., the Fisher family’s investment management company when the company proved unsuccessful.
The purchase of many Fairmont hotels in San Francisco with Lewis Wolff led to him investing in the Oakland Athletics. He also has a share in the San Jose Earthquakes of the MLS and the Glasgow Celtic football club of the Scottish Premiership.
Since he and Wolff secured their joint acquisition of the Athletics in 2005, Fisher has been the team’s primary owner and is now also the managing general partner. Wolff sold his 10% stake in the Athletics to Fisher in November 2016, allowing Fisher to take over the team’s management. Forbes put his net worth at $2.4 billion in September 2015.
